AT&T Service The W580i operates on GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks and can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T's EDGE network (which stands for "Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution"), with availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. This third-generation, high-speed, mobile data and Internet access technology is fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services (with average data speeds between 75-135Kbps), including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go.

Phone Features The W580i Walkman phone offers a full-function digital audio player that's compatible with MP3 and AAC files. The front of this slider phone includes dedicated music control buttons, and it includes Sony Ericsson's innovative "shake to shuffle" feature. With Shake control activated, press and hold the Walkman key and flick your wrist. A vibration lets you know that the track has been changed--a new song from your current playlist is randomly selected and automatically played.
With the TrackID service, you can identify any song that you can hear by just recording a snippet of sound using the microphone. After sending the file for recognition, you'll have the name, artist and album sent to your phone. Other Walkman features include MegaBass enhancement for added depth of sound, a flight mode that lets you keep listening to tunes with the phone's network connectivity turned off, and Disc2Phone software for easy transfer of song files between phone and PC. It also includes a built-in FM radio with RDS, which displays the name of the currently playing song (when tuned to compatible radio stations).
This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity with EDR (enhanced data rate), and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and audio/video remote control. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server.
The built-in 2.0 megapixel camera captures stills and video--and playback of video or still pictures is only limited to the memory card size. Picture effects and custom screensavers, backgrounds, and themes can be setup to fit your personality. It provides support for PictBridge technology so you can print your photos without the need of a PC (either using USB or Bluetooth). And the W580i makes it easy to send snapped photos directly to a blog or an online photo, complete with text. This phone is also compatible with RTSP/3GPP streaming video playback
You can even take your favorite tracks to the track with the W580i, which will count your steps, your calories and monitor your running speed/distance/time with the integrated motion sensor. Your workout results are stored in your phone so you can monitor your progress.
The phone also ships with a built-in email client with support for POP3 and IMAP4 protocols, while the included Access NetFront Web Browser allows you to surf full HTML web sites. It also supports RSS feeds, allowing you to use your phone to view up-to-the-minute news and other content from selected Web sites and blogs. Just subscribe to the feed and let it come to you. Support is built in for sending and receiving text, video, graphics and sound via messages.
The phone also supports the SyncML PC synchronization standard. This means the phone can be used with the included Sony Ericsson Sync Station software, which lets you synchronize your Microsoft Outlook calendar, contacts, notes and tasks on your PC with the phone.

Spotlight customer reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: Very disappointed with the W580i. Comment: My previous phone was the Sony Ericsson S710a, and loved it. So I thought the W580i would be an improvement from that. But sadly it's not. And for the price through Amazon being $.01, I should have bought a different phone even if I had to spend more.
Good:
Clear sound.
Small but good clear screen.
Bad:
Keys cracked right after I had it a month. Amazon didn't seem to know their own return policy as, of the 8 representitives I spoke with, 4 said it could be exchanged with no problem for a different phone, and 3 said they would research it only to send a standard denial email, and one had the courage to say all of them were wrong, apologize for being transferred, and tell me what did I expect from a free phone.
No light on the camera
So so camera, there is pixel lines in every picture
Horrilbe speaker phone
Don't even think about using the speaker to play music.
Sometimes will receive an error of death.
Slider feels flimsy, and I worry that it will eventually break.
Battery life isn't great.
Wrist strap hole is useless
Overall it's a basic phone aimed at teens. Wheras the S710a I would say was marketed towards an older crowd. So I was a sucker for buying this, and now I have to live with it for my 2 year contract. I will most likely end up buying a phone off of eBay within 6 months just to get away from this one.
I recommend a DO NOT BUY...plenty of other phones are better than this one. Customer Rating: Summary: Amazing Features - BAD Design Comment: I've been a die-hard SonyEricsson fan for years...ever since the T616. I held onto my S710 until it's very last breath. When I finally had to make a change, I pondered and compared for months. Call me a nerd, but form and function in mobile phones is incredibly important!
Upon first receiving my W580i, I was ecstatic. The feature set and user-interface are AMAZING! The size is exactly what I wanted...I can't even feel that there's a phone slipped into my pockets.
As an avid texter, it wasn't long before the keys on the numeric keypad started cracking. The keys on the slider are now disloging from the case as well. I filed a return with SE, but how is one meant to function without a cell phone for 4-6 weeks while they repair? Further...there's nothing being done to prevent it from happening again?
For light use, this phone is awesome. For a power user...hold out for something else! Customer Rating: Summary: Love it, but be wary Comment: I've had this phone for almost a month and I've loved every second of it. I'm a long time Nokia user and finally switched to Sony for the slider and alleged superior vocal quality. I love the w580i for its small size, functionality, and endless array of features. Unfortunately, my pampered little phone has already had a button break, something I find unacceptable before at least the year mark. Also, the sound is not much better than my former Nokia (even after the Nokia had broken in half...love the flip phone). But like I said, I still love this phone. It is snazzy and fresh and cooler than lime jello on a hot summer day. Customer Rating: Summary: Nice phone Comment: I got this phone from At&T when I upgraded my plan. It is nice phone with good features, voice quality, signal reception is pretty good. I love its 2MP camera. Actually this phone's camera take better pictures than my Kodak easy share 4.1MP camera. Volume of Walkman is loud enough..overall ia good phone...the only problem is that it is very thin so I bought a clear case for its protection... Customer Rating: Summary: Better than the others Comment: I have had a sony Ericsson before as well and I loved the phone. I then switched to Verizon and their phones are just horrible (service is good). A month ago, I swtiched back to AT&T this year and got this phone. I have been very happy with this phone except for a few things.
PROS:
- Slick desgin
- I like the Slider (it is very smooth)
- Very light and easy to carry.
- If you get the Micro SD card you can add music on the phone and the quality is pretty good.
- FM Radio
CONS:
- If you forget to lock your phone and its in your pocket, you will find yourself browsing the internet without knowing. To stop this from happening, I just went to Menu - Settings - Connectivity - Internet Settings - Internet Profiles and switched to Software update instead of media net. So now it would not connect to the internet while in the pocket.
- The music that you add in your phone can not be used as a ringtone unless you convert it to a wmi file.
- Does not have a lot of themes to choose from.
Overall, I like this phone a lot better than the 2 previous LG phones that I have and the Sony Ericsson T610. Good upgrade!
